Dexter, MI — March 2006 – ReCellular, the world’s foremost collector, reseller, and recycler of used wireless handsets and accessories, announced today the recent International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 certification of its Dexter, Michigan-based manufacturing plant by NSF International Strategic Registrations (NSF-ISR), Ltd. As an ISO 14001-certified business, ReCellular has committed itself to environmentally-responsible business systems and processes.
The ISO 14001 certification is a voluntary, internationally-recognized standard that facilitates improved environmental business management through an external auditing process. ISO 14001-certified businesses have demonstrated a commitment to developing and implementing an environmental management system in their core business processes, and have built a solid foundation for managing environmental issues, concerns, and challenges in the modern business world.
“ReCellular’s core business operations depend on recycling, and the company’s business model lends itself to environmental preservation and improvement,” said Gordon Bellen, NSF-ISR, Ltd EMS Lead Auditor. “The ISO 14001 certification signifies that ReCellular’s manufacturing facilities in Dexter, Michigan, have complied with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and requirements, demonstrating a dedication to environmentally-sound business practices.”
ReCellular specializes in recycling and remanufacturing cellular phones in order to prolong the lifespan of individual cell phones while simultaneously cutting down on solid electronic waste. The company processes over 15,000 phones a day, many of which are ultimately re-introduced into domestic and global retail markets by ReCellular’s global network of reseller partners.
ReCellular’s ISO 14001 registration audit, conducted on March 14 and 15, 2006, verified through employee interviews and analyses of corporate procedures, records, and data archives that ReCellular’s Dexter, MI, facility had developed, documented, and implemented an ISO 14001-compliant environmental management system. During the On-Site Readiness Review of the ReCellular corporate facility in Dexter, MI, NSF-ISR auditors found no minor non-conformances with ISO 14001 certification.
“ISO 14001 certification further affirms ReCellular’s commitment to environmentally-responsible business operations,” said Chuck Newman, President and CEO of ReCellular “Our mobile phone collection and recycling activities seek to reduce electronic waste levels associated with discarded cellular phones.
