ReCellular Prevented 612,000 Pounds of Hazardous Waste in 2009

 

2nd Annual ReCellular Corporate Sustainability Report Highlights Company’s Environmental Practices

 

Ann Arbor, Mich., March 23, 2010 – ReCellular, the world’s leading source and solution for used electronics, collected and processed 5 million phones for reuse and recycling in 2009. Because of their efforts, more than 1.6 million pounds of solid waste were kept out of landfills, and enough green house gases were prevented to equal 1,676 cars being taken off our roads.

 

“The real dangers from used electronics entering our environment is only now becoming apparent,” said Steve Manning, ReCellular CEO.  “I am proud of the progress that ReCellular has made towards providing a tangible solution to this growing threat to our air and water.”

 

That progress is documented in the company’s second annual sustainability report, available at www.ReCellular.com/Sustainability. Highlights of ReCellular’s 2009 report include:

 

• ReCellular collected 5 million phones, or nearly 15,000 every day.
• Money paid by ReCellular to Cell Phones for Soldiers helped them to distribute their 50 millionth minute of free calling time for our troops.
• ReCellular’s automated data removal process resulted in the deletion of tens of millions of
  e-mails, text messages and photographs.
• ReCellular recycled 945,000 pounds of materials, including handsets, batteries, phone chargers and accessories, and paper and plastic shipping materials.
• ReCellular reclaimed 25,000 pounds of copper, 690 pounds of silver, and 75 pounds of gold from recycled circuit boards and electronics accessories.
