Shipping Cell Phones Safely: What You Need To Know

At ReCellular, we understand the importance of your environmentally responsible cell phone recycling efforts. We also understand the importance of ensuring the safe transport of batteries that power these devices. Most batteries found in cell phones are lithium-ion and now require new labeling on shipping packages (including collection boxes and envelopes).
US Postal Service Shipments:
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) recently issued a new regulation that requires packages containing lithium batteries to be properly labeled. You will notice that all cell phone recycling envelopes will have the following information:
FedEx Shipments:
Due to the new Federal regulations, you must write: “Contains Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Batteries” on all FedEx Ground packages
with 12 or less phones.
For packages that contain 12 or more phones, you must attach the following label (provided with your prepaid shipping label):
